To increase the efficiency of deposition review workflow (eg. multiple team members navigating and reviewing numerous lengthy deposition transcripts), DISCO is introducing generative AI to create various forms of deposition summaries - made available in users’ existing workflows in Case Builder.
Starting Out
- Navigate to Case Builder
- Select the Deposition section and choose the intended deposition
- In the left hand panel, press “Generate deposition summaries” to create the summaries
- Pressing the generate button in the Deposition Overview will generate all summaries
Alternative Generation Options
- To generate only page line summaries or topic summaries, navigate to the right hand panel
- From there, click the drop down arrow to switch to either page line or topic summaries
- Click the “Generate Summary” button on either view to create summaries for only the desired section
Understanding the Summaries
Feature | Current State |
Quick Summary | A quick (1-3 sentence) overview all of the entire deposition transcript. This can be made available in the deposition list views and deposition viewer. |
Page line Summary | A page line summary details testimony verbatim and chronologically with exact references, ideal for pinpointing specific information. |
Topic Summary | A topic summary condenses testimony by subject, useful for grasping overall themes and arguments. |
Sources | For page line summaries and topic summaries, users can navigate to the location in the transcript through the citations. When the citation button is clicked, the source text will be highlighted and an annotations box will appear in the UI. |
Navigating the Summaries
- To assist navigating the summaries generated, there is an “Expand all” and “Collapse all” feature
- In the right hand panel, for either page line or topic summaries, summary cards can be expanded or collapsed for searching
- Expanding the cards will display the full text summary and sources
- Collapsing the cards will display the title of the summary and the number of the sources if it is a topic summary
Verifying the Summaries
- Summaries all contain citations to the source text that was utilized to generate the summary
- Applies to both page line and topic summaries
- By clicking the citation button, the transcript will move to the relevant section and select the text
Exporting the Summaries
- In the right hand panel, there is an “Export” button that will download the summaries to the user’s computer. The export will contain both page line and topic summaries.
- Page line and Topic sections each have an export button.
- After downloading the spreadsheet, users can then share the deposition summaries outside the application
Leaving Feedback
- In the right hand panel, users can click “Leave feedback”
- A textbox will appear in the view that can be submitted to leave feedback to the team
